The history of Powerball in the Lone Star State started on January 6, 2010 when the Texas Lottery Commission voted 3-0 in order to approve the Powerball game rule. A few weeks later, on January 31, the ticket sales began, allowing participants in Texas to enter the first Powerball drawing, scheduled for Wednesday, February 3. That first draw was a success as the total sales were more than $1.3 million.
Since then, Texans have been entering and winning Powerball, with two jackpot wins so far.

Powerball Jackpots Won in Texas
In the history of Powerball jackpot winners, the grand prize has only been won by Texan lottery players two times.
1. $564.1 Million - February 11, 2015 - Princeton
Three lucky winners matched all six numbers on the February 11, 2015 draw and won $564.1 million. One of the winning tickets was sold in Texas, at the Appletree Food Mart, located at 893 E. Princeton Drive in Princeton. The share of the prize, worth $127,046,150.05, was claimed by TL Management Trust, Andrew Weber, Trustee of Austin. The lucky winner requested minimal publicity.
The other winning tickets were sold in North Carolina and Puerto Rico.
2. $40 Million - May 29, 2013 - Ravenna
The first Powerball jackpot won in Texas happened three years after the launch of the game in this state. The big prize was worth $40 million and was claimed by Paul McDowell from Ravenna, less than a month after the draw. Paul purchased the Quick Pick ticket at Lone Star Food Store #48, located at 205 W. Bells Blvd., in Bells. The winner chose the cash lump sum option of $24,906,600.25.
